Josh Harrison homered among his three hits and drove in four runs, and four relievers combined for four perfect innings as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Chicago White Sox 7-4 on Tuesday in the first game of a doubleheader.
Harrison is now 5 for 10 after being mired in a 2-for-12 slump as the Phillies won their second consecutive game. The White Sox lost for the fifth time in their last six.
Phillies shortstop Bryson Stott singled to start the game and extend his hitting streak to 17 games, surpassing the franchise record of 16 to start the season set by Puddin’ Head Jones in 1950. Gregory Soto, Craig Kimbrel, Seranthony Dominguez and Jose Alvarado struck out eight while retiring all 12 Sox batters to secure the win. Chicago has struck out 39 times in its last four games.The White Sox got six consecutive hits off Zack Wheeler to start the bottom of the third and pull within one. Luis Robert Jr. hit a two-run double, and Andrew Vaughn followed with a two-run single.
Chicago starter Lance Lynn allowed a season-high 10 hits and was pulled after striking out Trea Turner on his 107th pitch in the sixth. Jimmy Lambert got Lynn out of a jam by striking out Brandon Marsh with runners on first and second to end the inning, but Harrison tagged him with his first homer in the seventh.
