Keckler, 61, was last seen alive the morning of Nov. 9 and could have been dead since that day, the coroner officials told police. The coroner ruled the death a homicide on Thursday Dec. 1.Waller had the code to the padlock on the hatch, the landlord told police according to court records, because Waller sometimes did odd jobs for him. Waller lived in the rear apartment just above the basement stairs.

Keckler’s body showed wounds to his face and head that matched a hammer, according to the coroner’s report. His cause of death was due to multiple traumatic injuries.Investigators are still trying to determine how Waller knew Keckler. No one reported Keckler missing.
