Khalil M. Brown, 27, was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of traffic in Dauphin County last year before crashing into a vehicle occupied by a woman who was 8-months pregnant, police said.

Her unborn baby was 35 weeks and 3 days old when he was born by emergency Caesarian section at a hospital after crash. The boy suffered a skull fracture and other traumatic brain injuries due to “maternal blunt force trauma” and did not survive. The area is in a dark stretch of road, police wrote in their report, where “street lights and other sources of ambient lighting are not prevalent.” The road was clear and dry at the time, police noted.

A trooper tried to talk to Brown after the crash, and noted he was “semi-alert” with injuries to his legs. The trooper said he noted a strong odor of marijuana, and that Brown provided his phone number but otherwise could not relate any information other than he did not think he was injured, according to court records.
