Crissa Jackson honed her basketball skills in Harrisburg - playing for Susquehanna Township and SciTech - before becoming only the 13th woman to play for the Harlem Globetrotters. Her career and experience, she said, was enhanced by Title IX.

At 32, Jackson acknowledges that her sports career benefited from Title IX, the 50-year-old federal law guaranteeing equality in sports and academics for women.

“Title IX has been so impactful for women sports, whether it be someone playing for a team or coaching or an administrator,” Jackson said. “It has given women the opportunity to be in sports, which was never an opportunity before. It has given women a voice and an opportunity to showcase what they strive to be. Whether it be professionally or not.”

Jackson today continues to play basketball, but she has become a social-media influencer - as well as an actor and model - advocating for the rights of women and the LGBTQ community.
