This EarthDay NOAA has a lot to celebrate: from new instruments to new satellites, which will provide critical information to keep us informed and help keep us safe. EarthDayNOAA Let's celebrate Earth's beauty in this week's EarthFromOrbit video:
The first Earth Day took place in 1970, which also was the same year NOAA was established. Since then, NOAA satellites have been monitoring Earth’s weather, environment, oceans, and climate. They provide critical information for forecasts and warnings of severe weather and environmental hazards.
Geostationary satellites continuously monitor the same area, keeping watch to identify and track severe weather conditions and environmental hazards. This information is used for short-term forecasts and for tracking storm systems and hazards in real-time.. Upon reaching orbit, the satellite was renamed NOAA-21. NASA handed NOAA-21 over to NOAA on Mar. 30, 2023.
. Once in orbit, Argos-4 joined a network of other Argos instruments onboard other polar-orbiting satellites to collect a variety of data from both stationary and mobile transmitters around the world.
