Guardians improve to 9-2 in extra innings with sweep of Detroit.
DETROIT -- Zach Plesac didn’t get the win Thursday, but that’s all right because in the end he helped the Guardians win their fifth straight game.
“We were staying away from Clase and Karinchak,” said manager Terry Francona. “So we knew going in we may have to win it differently.” Gonzalez scored Ramirez, the automatic runner, from second base with a two-out single in the 10th off Gregory Soto . Soto struck out Gonzalez on three pitches in the ninth inning Wednesday.
“We were so happy for him,” said Francona. “He said the other day he felt like he was getting challenged. I thought he went out today and really pitched well. He didn’t get the win today because of things that happened, but if he pitches like that he’ll be just fine.”What’s gone wrong for Plesac? Have you got an hour? Better make that two.
When he walked Harold Castro, the next batter, there had to be some nerves in Cleveland’s dugout. But Plesac came back and struck out Willi Castro in an eight-pitch at-bat to end the inning.
