Police investigators focused on Robert Lee because of a piece of paper found next to the doctor’s body.
A Lodi man was sentenced to life without possibility of parole for arranging the murder of a podiatrist whom he allegedly blamed for his wife’s death.Robert Elmo Lee, 83, was sentenced Monday by a San Joaquin County judge. He had beenin the fatal shooting of Thomas Shock, 67, at the doctor’s Lodi home.
After Shock’s August 2018 murder, police investigators focused on Lee because of a piece of paper found next to the doctor’s body: part of a document from the California Medical Board concerning Bonnie Lee’s treatment. The investigators obtained the IP addresses of people who had recently downloaded the document, and after obtaining a search warrant they found the rest of the printout at Lee’s home.
On the evening he was killed, according to the investigators’ report, Shock and his wife, Nancy, had dinner at a restaurant then returned to their home, in Lodi’s Rivergate neighborhood. Police found Shock lying at his front doorway. He had been shot in the arm, chest and head and was pronounced dead at the scene.• Mallory Stewart, 32, the shooter. He pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. His sentence has not been announced.
