New figures show revenue from passenger journeys has also increased
Passenger journeys on Nottingham's tram network have grown at a faster rate than all of the country's other light rail systems. Although usage across the country remains below pre-pandemic levels, new data shows that there were 212 million passenger journeys on England's trams for the year ending March 2023.
The figures come in a Government report published earlier this month, which says: "Light rail and tram usage increased from 172 million passenger journeys in the year ending March 2022 to 212 million passenger journeys in the year ending March 2023. However, usage remains below pre-pandemic levels, with 275 million passenger journeys taken in the year ending March 2019.
"There's no sense that customers are voting with their feet, there's a distinct loyalty towards the trams and I think the people of Nottingham are particularly proud of the fact that they have a tram network." The Government's report also says that the vehicle mileage of England's trams remained broadly the same for the year ending March 2023.
