Ground was broken Thursday afternoon ushering in a $54.4 million change to the landscape on the north side of Lincolnway in downtown Valparaiso from Michigan Avenue to Morgan Boulevard that will offer residential, retail, and parking slated for completion by April 2025.
The public-private partnership was awarded $9.6 million in redevelopment tax credits by the Indiana Economic Development Commission, as well as tax increment financing assistance from the Valparaiso Redevelopment Commission. Nearly 70% of the construction labor is expected to be union.The Linc, at the former site of the Round the Clock restaurant, 217 E.
Valparaiso City Councilman Robert Cotton, D-2nd, has been one of those concerned about pricing out locals. “I think this is designed to recruit people outside of Valparaiso,” he said. “It has a Carmelized flavor to it, or a Napervillian style to it,” he added, referring to the suburbs Carmel, north of Indianapolis, and Naperville, west of Chicago.

Interior amenities will include a fitness center, dog wash, communal kitchen, TV viewing and media areas. Units will be majority studios and one-bedroom apartments, though some two-bedroom and 1,200-square-foot three-bedroom units will be offered.
