The Color for a Cure Fun Run event, set to take place on May 22, 2022, is expected to have over 700 participants.

Tara Kuipers, 39, was not expecting to receive a call from her doctor with the devastating news that she had stage four metastatic breast cancer, a disease with a survival rate under 30%.

“I never thought we would get this many people,” said Kuipers, who closed registration May 1 due to the number of participants. “We felt like that was the best option to ensure an amazing and successful event.” In addition to being the founder of the Color for a Cure Fun Run, Kuipers is the New Jersey state captain for, held globally on Oct. 13, National Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Local landmarks will be lit in the colors of the MBC ribbon that day, she said.

Bowling was given a life expectancy of two to three years, but seven years have passed since her diagnosis.
