County Prosecutor James Pfeiffer announced the indictment against Kaspereen, who turns 25 next month, in the killing of Elaine Trachin last Nov. 30 and assault on 53-year-old William “Bart” Trachin inside theirA grand jury indictment in New Jersey is akin to a preliminary hearing in Pennsylvania, in that probable cause is determined both that a crime was committed and that there is cause to believe a suspect may be responsible, Pfeiffer said.
Kaspereen, of Butler Street, is indicted on eight charges: murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, robbery, burglary, hindering prosecution and tampering with physical evidence , according to Pfeiffer’s office. He wasKaspereen remains in the Warren County jail, pending trial, Pfeiffer said.
If convicted, Kaspereen would face a maximum penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole on the murder count; up to 20 years in state prison on the attempted murder, kidnapping and robbery charges, all first-degree crimes; up to 10 years in state prison on the second-degree count of burglary; and up to 18 months in state prison on the remaining charges, all fourth-degree crimes, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Kaspereen is the lone suspect in the deadly attack at the Trachins’ home in Washington’s 100 block of Wayne Street, Pfeiffer said, although the investigation is continuing.
