Other universities have hesitated to ease grading requirements. Michael Crow, the president of Arizona State University , saidwith the campus newspaper that the university would “definitively not do a pass/fail option on a University-wide basis” and would allow instructors to make the decision about implementing pass/fail for themselves.

When ASU student Cami Parrish first heard about the decision, she thought of her peers, some of whom live in different time zones and would have to wake up for “4 a.m. lectures.” Others, who relied on campus computers to do schoolwork, would no longer have access to the same technology. While facing obstacles of her own, Parrish has advocated for a universal pass/fail system as she tries to come to grips with her new reality.Teen Vogue.

“It feels pretty surreal. Doing classes at home is difficult because everybody in my house is working from home now — while I’m in class, my mom is in a meeting one room over and my dad is doing a conference pitch in the living room. It’s just hectic.

“Since I have no problem with funding and shelter, I can focus on my studies and turn in my homework or tasks in a timely manner.… I want to be able to see the fruit of my hard work,” she said. “Nevertheless, had I been struggling with housing and funding, I don't think I would have been able to focus on my studies. I would probably beg the department to implement pass/fail.”Teen Vogue
