The Government has acknowledged the risk the alert poses to people subject to domestic abuse who have concealed phones connie_dimsdale reports

the Government said: “Women and girls who are subject to domestic abuse and have concealed phones can opt-out of the national test either by turning off Emergency Alerts in their phone settings or by switching their phone off.”

All smartphones in the UK are set to receive a test alert from the new emergency system at 3pm on Sunday 23 April, with a tone sounding for ten seconds even if a phone is on silent – leading to fears from abuse campaigners that victims could be placed at risk.charity Refuge welcomed the Government’s “proactive communications” to highlight the risk the alert poses to people subject to domestic abuse who have concealed phones.
