The cheaper Pixel 7a finally comes with a faster refresh rate and improved cameras, so why should you even consider the more expensive Pixel 7?...
Probably the most anticipated upgrade in the Pixel 7a is the display. It's the same 6.1-inch OLED screen as in the last year's Pixel 6a, but what's different is that it now supports a fast, 90Hz refresh rate. This puts it on par with the Pixel 7 and is great news. The 60Hz screen on the A series before made the experience of using the phone choppy, and this will finally fix it.
With this upgrade, the Pixel 7a will likely remain the fastest Android phone in this price range, but purely in comparison with the Pixel 7, there should be no major difference in the performance. The best thing about Pixel phones is that they get software updates immediately after Google releases them, while Android phones from other brands have to wait for months to get those updates. Both the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7a should get three major Android OS upgrades and four years of security updates.
