A raft of new rules have caused issues on tour this year, but it was an old one that Varner fell foul of at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra. Varner damaged his driver warming up before his round and sent a representative to retrieve a replacement and bring it to him on the course. “They don’t want clubs assembled and adjusted on the golf course, so that’s the reason for that rule,” PGA Tour rules official Mark Russell told reporters.
