The Outer Circle has been closed following the incident
Glasgow's Subway Outer Circle is suspended after a train broke down and started to 'fill with smoke'.
Passengers on the train were told to evacuate by the driver as it screeched to a halt at St Enoch station. Smoke was seen covering the underground platform after those on the train reported a strange smell. It is unclear when the outer circle will be reopened to the public.A passenger told Glasgow Live : "The train was making a terrible sound when it pulled into St Enoch - like scraping maybe.
"We stopped on the platform for a few minutes but the smoke was filling the platform so I went back upstairs. "There were no staff up at the main turnstiles when we got there and the gates were open so you didn’t need to use your ticket to exit. "It appeared the inner circle was still running so I got on it. The train was still sitting on the opposite side and some of the doors maybe looked a bit black and singed."When we got to Buchanan Street they announced the circle was closed and people on the opposite platform made their way over."A spokesperson from Glasgow Subway said: "The Outer Circle is currently suspended while we remove a broken down train from the system. All passengers have left the train.
