Elizabeth Molloy has been struggling to cope in the one-bedroom flat she shares with her son, John, who suffered life-changing injuries after taking an overdose - leaving him with partial paralysis.
A pensioner has been sleeping 'side by side' with her brain-damaged son in an agonising wait for a new home due to housing shortages. She found herself becoming a full-time carer, in 2021, after her son took a drug overdose the year before leaving him with severe brain damage and partial paralysis.
Elizabeth faces a daily struggle as she barely leaves her home and is unable to help carry John up and down the stairs. Elizabeth added: "I'm his full-time carer now but I find it so hard to look after him in this house. We have been waiting for a more suitable property for around 18 months and we're no further forward. So far anywhere they have offered us either has stairs or no wheelchair access. We need to live somewhere where John has space to at least try to get back on his feet."
