Frank Lynch, who opened the iconic former Glasgow Apollo, passed away aged 84. A moving tribute has now been paid to the music mogul from BBC Radio Scotland host and friend Billy Sloan.
An emotional tribute has been paid after the former owner of the iconic Glasgow Apollo Theatre passed away at the age of 84.
"I first knew Frank as a concert go-er in those early days when the crumbling Green's Playhouse cinema at 126 Renfield Street was transformed into the No. 1 gig in the UK. But over the years, I got to know Frank as a friend and spent many times in his company. "Frank - and his crack team at Unicorn Leisure - signed up big name acts such as Paul McCartney and Wings, Roxy Music, ABBA, The Who, The Bay City Rollers, Led Zeppelin, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Rod Stewart and The Clash, to name but a few. The Apollo's slogan was: 'They've all been ... and they're all coming back.'
"In 2010 - as a member of the fund-raising committee for the music biz charity Nordoff and Robbins - I helped organise an award for Frank. At the Old Fruitmarket, Glasgow we presented him with the Tartan Clef for Industry in recognition of his incredible achievements.
