Some Girl Scout chapters across the country have said they will charge $1 more per box for all varieties of Girl Scout cookies.
When sales of Girl Scout cookies kicks off in January, some chapters across the country will be charging $6 per box, up from $5 in 2022.NEW YORK – Girl Scout cookies, an American tradition for more than a century, will be a bit more expensive this year in some parts of the country as the effects of inflation push up prices.
At least one New York chapter, the Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson, told troop parents and other members of the community in an email last week that all varieties of the cookies will be sold for $6 per box, up from $5 last year.. But now the higher price will apply to other cookies the troops sell, including the classics: Thin Mints, Trefoils, Do-si-dos and Samoas.
“In order to combat rising production and material costs, GSHH will be increasing the price of all cookie packages to $6.00,” the Heart of the Hudson chapter’s interim CEO wrote, adding “we expect our neighboring councils to announce similar increases in the coming weeks and months.”In the 1920s, sales efforts went national.
“Each of our 111 Girl Scout councils sets local Girl Scout Cookie prices based on several factors,” a spokesperson for Girl Scouts of the USA told CBS MoneyWatch in an email. “In some instances, councils are faced with the tough decision to raise the prices, though prices have remained steady in many areas for a number of years.”
