It's uncertain which was stronger. Was it the wind blowing in at Pasadena Memorial's baseball field or was it Deer Park pitcher Brayden Gilley?Gilley was just downright overwhelming, not allowing a single Memorial batter to reach second base as the righthander went the distance in leading Deer Park to a 1-0 District 22-6A triumph Tuesday afternoon.
"Thank goodness for Gilley. He came out and threw a great game. We played some really good defense. We had some really good plays in the infield. We turned a key double play. Both Kiefers made good plays and Gilley makes the good play on the bunt," said Deer Park head coach Chris Rupp, whose club improved to 4-1.
In the fourth inning, Gilley hit a second batter, but he was promptly picked off, resulting in a 1-3-6 tag out, ending that frame. In the sixth, another Mav opened the inning by reaching first and he was erased on the bunt attempt that Rupp was referring to. It wasn't the second inning that was his weakest, but the fifth when Deer Park collected three singles but couldn't score. Memorial's defense tagged out a runner at the plate after the second single.
