The league leaders made just one change to the team that beat Aston Villa 4-2 in their previous game, with Martinelli starting ahead of Eddie Nketiah. Oleksandr Zinchenko was chosen as captain, as a mark of respect for the first anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine. Leicester seemed happy to allow Arsenal lots of possession in the opening thirty minutes, but apart from a couple of tame shots by Granit Xhaka and Bukayo Saka, the visitors could not create anything of note.
The Gunners have conceded the opening goal in four of their last five league fixtures, but came out for the second half firing – and even before spectators could get back to their seats the country’s top team were ahead. Occasionally the Foxes ventured out from their half in an attempt to have a shot. Their best moment and move of the game came when Harvey Barnes put in a superb swinging cross across the box but Iheanacho just couldn’t get on the end of it, and the home fans sighed with disappointment.
Top of the league, their squad is now more balanced, talisman Gabriel Jesus is back in training, and boss Mikel Arteta is expertly managing the team through each obstacle they face.
