Refs missed pass interference call on throw to tight end Darren Waller

Because a game can’t end on a defensive penalty, the Giants were awarded an untimed down and another shot at a win., lofted the ball to the back of the end zone, and, with cornerback Taron Johnson grabbing a fistful of his jersey, Waller could get only one hand on the ball, which fell incomplete. Waller at 6-foot-6, had the height advantage over Johnson, at 5-11., a former NFL official, said the refs missed an obvious pass-interference penalty.
“Let me give you this from Wallers’ perspective,” Collinsworth said. “The hold starts right here. You’re gonna see the grab, the jersey tug starts about two yards into the end zone. And now as he tries to put up the second hand to go make the catch, the continued hold is basically keeping that left hand from going up in the air.
Said McAulay: “And that’s perfectly reasonable, Chris. In your opinion that does significantly hinder him. I think it does as well as we look at it over. He can’t get that hand up. So it does become a foul for defensive pass interference at that point. The official, obviously, in real time didn’t believe it significantly hindered him and didn’t make the call.”
