The new pitch clock has left less time for fans at MLB games to buy beer.

Well, if you're one of those few hardy souls who want to spend a few hours at the Coliseum, good news: You might be able to get a bit drunker soon.that at least four teams — the Brewers, Diamondbacks, Rangers and Twins — have added eighth-inning beer sales to make up for the lost time caused by MLB's new pitch clock. The A's told SFGATE they were discussing possible changes to their own seventh-inning cutoff.

Most MLB teams, including the A's and Giants, traditionally cut off booze sales after the seventh inning to curtail fan drunkenness and reduce drunk driving. But the new pitch clock has sliced nearly half an hour from game times this year, with MLB games averaging just two hours, 38 minutes,, leaving less time for thirsty fans to buy beer. Games averaged between 3:04 and 3:11 from 2016 to 2022.

, told SFGATE that they were not. “We are not planning to make any changes to our current alcohol sales policies,” Giants Senior Vice President Shana Daum said. Even if concessions are cut off, “most teams already had areas around the ballpark where fans could get alcohol after the seventh,” according to the AP. Mothers Against Drunk Driving told the AP that the organization was indifferent to any deadline and did not want fans driving home from games after drinking, period. Both Bay Area MLB stadiums are easily accessible by public transportation.
