The New York Giants are hoping for playmakers to emerge at the pass-catching positions. One intriguing option is fourth-yearThe No. 207 overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, Hodgins spent the first three seasons of his career with the Buffalo Bills. Inconsistent play and injuries made Hodgins an on-again, off-again member of the Bills’ roster. Hodgins spent a large portion of his tenure in Buffalo on the practice squad and signing reserve/futures contracts.
The former Oregon State standout was a complete revelation, amassing 33 receptions for 351 receiving yards and four touchdowns in just eight regular-season appearances with the Giants. Hodgins recorded touchdowns in four of his final five games. In the Giants’ wild-card upset over the Minnesota Vikings, Hodgins rose to the occasion by finishing that contest with 105 receiving yards and a touchdown on eight receptions as the Giants earned a 31-24 victory., who averaged a passer rating of 123.
Hodgins was especially effective when running routes to the short-center portion of the field. He hauled in 16-of-19 targets for a target-to-reception conversion rate of 84.2%, via PFF. A personal-best 38% of Hodgins’ targets occurred under such circumstances. Hodgins accounted for 137 receiving yards and one touchdown on such concepts.
The Giants wisely re-signed Hodgins to a one-year contract earlier this summer. Hodgins was set to become an exclusive-rights free agent, which allowed Schoen to secure his services for a base salary of $870,000, per Spotrac. Hodgins is playing on a discounted deal and will attempt to parlay his 2023 performance into a larger payday next offseason.
