The Giants lost their quarterback to a knee injury and all hope for the 2023 season is gone now too.
Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Malcolm Koonce sacks New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones during the first half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023, in Las Vegas. That means, they were still stuck in the whatever-can-go-wrong-will-go-wrong stage of their 2023 horror show of a season. The result — a 30-6 loss to a dysfunctional team that fired its coach and general manager five days earlier — couldn’t even begin to describe the bleakness of the Giants’ situation.
Jones spent the commercial break between the first and second quarter running along the Giants’ sideline, lifting his right knee in an effort to convince himself that everything was OK. He remained in the game, but on the first play of the second quarter, he took the snap from center John Michael Schmitz and immediately collapsed.
Sunday Jones was returning from a neck injury that had kept him out of the previous three games. With Thomas also coming back and the defense playing well recently, there seemed to be some renewed optimism in the Giants’ locker room last week even after a devastating overtime defeat to the Jets. The aforementioned defense that played so well in games against Buffalo, Washington and the Jets, disappeared along with Jones on Sunday.
