Gerard Butler shares the story of how he got Olympus Has Fallen fan mail from Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr, praising the action film series.
Gerard Butler is one of the most prolific modern-day action stars, and his work in 2013's Olympus Has Fallen led to him getting fan mail from Marvel's Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. urging him to keep making action films in the same vein. Olympus Has Fallen released in 2013 and starred Butler as leading hero Mike Banning, a former Army Ranger who worked as a protective agent for the Secret Service and served as the head of the Presidential Detail.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In an interview with Uproxx ahead of his upcoming action movie Plane, Gerard Butler revealed that he got Olympus Has Fallen fan mail from Robert Downey Jr. after the release of the trilogy-starting film. Butler said that the standout star in the upcoming Oppenheimer film emailed him saying he should make more of those movies.
“Well, it’s funny because Robert Downey Jr. wrote me the nicest email after Olympus Has Fallen. This is the same vibe. He’s like, “We need more of these movies.” These are the movies, when I was in New York as a kid, and people would shout at the screen and throw things and be like, “No!,” and applaud and cheer. And I think that’s what this movie is, it’s a throwback to that, where literally you’re in the energy of the group and everybody’s either terrified or cheering you on.
Butler will continue to star in action films that will likely be very similar to those of the 2010s. After starring in Olympus Has Fallen sequel entries London Has Fallen and Angel Has Fallen, the actor will appear in the upcoming action-thriller Plane. More Gerard Butler action sequels are also on the way, with Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, Greenland: Migration, and Night Has Fallen in various states of development.
