Georgia has fired basketball coach Tom Crean after a 6-26 finish this season. Georgia has fired fourth-year basketball coach Tom Crean, the school announced Thursday.
Crean posted a 47-75 record with the Bulldogs, including 6-26 this season. Georgia went 1-17 in the SEC , and ended its season with an 86-51 loss to Vanderbilt in the first round of the SEC tournament on Wednesday. “I would like to sincerely thank coach Crean and his family for their commitment to Georgia basketball,” Georgia athletics director Josh Brooks said. “Tom Crean demonstrated unquestionable effort and enthusiasm in what he has attempted to accomplish at Georgia. That said, our expectation is to compete for postseason success in all 21 sports. We believe a leadership change in men’s basketball is needed to achieve our goals.
The 55-year-old Crean came to Georgia after successful runs at Marquette and Indiana, having reached an NCAA tournament Final Four with the Eagles in 2003 and Sweet Sixteens with the Hoosiers in 2012, 2013 and 2016.
