Rep. George Santos (R-NY) was found to have been charged with theft related to Amish dog breeders in 2017, but the charges were dropped and his record expunged.
A lawyer friend of Santos who helped him with the charge told Politico about the revelation. It was then confirmed by a representative from York County District Court in Pennsylvania.
While she initially believed him, Santos's lawyer friend, Tiffany Bogosian, said she now thinks he was lying due to his recent scandals, personal experiences since, and evidence uncovered by Politico. When asked by Michele Vazzo, a dog enthusiast who met him at the shop, about where he got all the puppies, Santos gave several different answers. He said that he rescued several golden retrievers from an Amish puppy mill. He gave more outlandish stories for others, claiming he found pregnant dogs on the street and rescued some from Puerto Rico.
