Just 35% of Gen Zers said they always tip when they go out to eat at a sit-down restaurant — compared to 83% of baby boomers surveyed.
Gen Zers are the least likely to give tips to waitstaff, hairdressers and other service employees.A measly 24% of Gen Z respondents said they add gratuity to the cost of a haircut or color, while three times as many baby boomers — 70% — always tip at the salon, according to the study.
The young adults are the most likely to always tip for such services at 15% and baby boomers are the least at just 6% in a reversal of the overall generational trend discovered through the survey. The number of adults paying gratuity to hair stylists and barbers also dropped by 10 from 63% in 2021 to 53% in 2023.
Despite being the best tippers, older generations are the most fed up by the seemingly never-ending tip screens.
