We chat with stars gatenm123 & jacobtremblay and filmmaker Nora Twomey (nora877) about which characters they relate to most in their new Netflix animated movie, MyFathersDragon:
Arriving on Netflix Friday, November 11, My Father's Dragon is based on the book by Ruth Stiles Gannett. The animated movie follows Elmer, who finds himself in dismay when he moves to a new city. Although she promises that the two of them will reopen their store, his mother struggles to find work and keep them afloat. Frustrated, Elmer runs away to Wild Island where he meets the dragon, Boris.
Jacob Tremblay: I think my favorite thing about the story has to be the duo between Elmer and Boris. I mean, they complement each other so well, and I think it's really entertaining to see how their relationship plays out. Elmer tries to be serious, but then Boris is just really wanting to play the whole time. And even just acting in it, I had such a fun time. And then being able to watch that—watch all that work on the screen—just makes me so happy.
Nora Twomey: That's fantastic. I thought you were gonna say you were most embarrassed about this film for a while. This is based on a book—it's a trilogy, actually. As the director, did you get to work with the author or talk this over with her?
