The Gary Sanchez experiment has ended.
Ahead of Thursday’s series-finale in Chicago, the Mets elected to designate the former Yankees catcher for assignment,It effectively ends Sanchez’s tenure with the team just weeks after it began with a hitting tear while playing for Triple-A Syracuse.
The move served as the corresponding transaction needed to activate Tomas Nido, who will return following a stint on the injured list for dry eye syndrome.He caught Max Scherzer in a doubleheader against the Guardians, and he went 1-for-3 with two strikeouts and an RBI at the plate that game.Nido was placed on the injured list earlier this month with dry eye syndrome, but he was hit in the hand Friday and “pretty sore” amid his rehab assignment.
