Making it to a Division I state semifinal was the latest in a series of barrier-breaking moments this fall for the Gahanna Lincoln football team.
With a 42-2 victory over Pickerington North in their Oct. 21 regular-season finale, the Lions finished 5-0 in the OCC-Ohio Division to wrap up their first league championship since sharing the title with Pickerington at 4-1 in 2001.
“We had a lot of things stacked against us with the field and the practice facility and our kids didn’t care. Hopefully it’s a learning lesson for our younger guys and we can become better.” The loss to St. Edward completed a season that also included two wins over Pickerington Central and two over New Albany, with the latter against the Eagles a 25-17 victory Nov. 18 for the Region 3 title. A 22-20 win over Central in Week 5 snapped a 15-game losing streak in that series.
