Gabrielle Union Speaks Out in Support of Women of Color in the Workplace
Gabrielle Union is speaking out on behalf of women of color in the workplace, urging them to not be afraid to call out wrongdoing, even if it means risking their jobs.
During a panel yesterday in New York City on the subject of female empowerment and inclusivity, and with fellow panelists Hannah Bronfman, Solange Franklin, Ebonee Davis, and Maddy Jones, Union inferred to her recentfiring and how black women and women of color have a different set of rules and expectations within the corporate world.
“Don’t be the happy negro that does the bidding of the status quo because you’re afraid. Don’t allow them to call you angry when someone else is called passionate. It’s terrifying,” said Union on the subject of unjust workplace politics. “Do your best because corporations want global dollars. Do your best to try to hold the door open and hold people responsible. Yeah, I’m asking you to do the impossible. … I’m fully aware that job loss is on the table … but if you’re not doing it, nobody is.
