G.W. Carver High and Stratford High musicals win top honors at Tommy Tune Awards
Theatre Under The Stars_Jimmy Awards Nominee Winners: Makenzie Woolridge, Cypress Ranch High School, Into The Woods and Nic Rhew, Stratford High School, Young Frankenstein..G.W. Carver High School's production of"Summer: The Donna Summer Musical" and Stratford High School's production of"Young Frankenstein" took the honors for outstanding musicals at Theatre Under the Stars' 2023 Tommy Tune Awards held at Sarofilm Hall at the Hobby Center Thursday night.
"Summer: The Musical" won in the Tier 1 division and"Young Frankenstein" won in the Tier 2 division .Among the honors"Summer: The Donna Summer Musical" received included nods for outstanding director and outstanding costume design , outstanding actor and outstanding dancer ."Young Frankenstein" was recognized for the North Star Award , outstanding music direction and outstanding sound design among others.
Four students -- two winners and two runners-up -- were selected as nominees for the Jimmy Awards, the name of the National High School Musical Theatre Awards. They are: winner Nic Rhew , winner Makenzie Woolridge , runner-up Taylor McMullen and runner-up Jackson Nichols . The Tommy Tune Awards, given to the best high-school productions at area high schools, are named after Broadway star, choreographer, nine-time Tony Award winner and Houston native Tommy Tune.
