Rarely during the pandemic have Democratic lawmakers banded together with Republicans to send a pointed message to the state’s Democratic governor.

Those are just a handful of the words New Jersey lawmakers from both political parties used Thursday to describe the state’s backlog of unemployment claims during impassioned speeches that urged Gov.Nearly the entire state Senate voted in favor of a resolution that pressured the governor to do both and also asked the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development to report back to them a handful of information, like the number of people waiting for unemployment, within 30 days.

Sen. Holly Schepisi, R-Bergen, was one of several who spoke about how their offices have been inundated with people looking for help trying to get unemployment over the past two years of the coronavirus pandemic. Rarely during the pandemic have Democratic lawmakers banded together with Republicans to send a pointed message to Murphy, a Democrat.
