The Richardson Animal Shelter is running a series of fun photo shoots to help increase visibility and the number of pet adoptions.
Every pet in the shelter is being photographed, from cats and dogs to rabbits and hamsters, according to a cityPhotographer Katie Schmidt said she takes pictures of many families and children. Photographing pets has “some definite similarities,” she said in the video.Noura Jammal, animal services manager, said the program has had success.
“The photos have been up on our website, on Facebook, on PetFinder, so people are calling in asking about them,” Jammal said. “I have people from other states calling in.”“Sometimes, when you first come into a shelter, it’s loud, noisy and a little intimidating,” photographer Katie Schmidt said. “So to be able to get an image of that dog, pulled away from that environment … I feel like that maybe helps a family understand the emotions of that dog and just how sweet and kind they really are.
