Liverpool owners FSG have shown that there is money to spend through Moises Caicedo pursuit
The addition of the 30-year-old Japan captain on a four-year deal on Friday saw the Reds shell out a guaranteed £16.25m to German Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart, representing the biggest fee that Reds owners Fenway Sports Group have spent on a 30-plus player since acquiring the club back in 2010.
“Yeah, you know it is not traditionally like that," said Klopp. "It is always a discussion that we have. The owners really want 200 games at 20 years old. That is pretty difficult. Endo’s signing represents one for the short to medium term, a player who can fill the experience void left by the departures of the likes of Jordan Henderson and James Milner. But in terms of where the serious money will be spent, it’s hard to see that the next major outlay won’t be on a player under the age of 23.
The transfer window closes at the end of this month and there are less than two weeks left for Liverpool to add to their squad, something that is expected to happen. The Reds owners have already shown their hand, perhaps more so than they would have liked, or have been used to doing, in the £111m bid for Caicedo, a clear sign that the funds are there for the right player.
