FSG made some big strides in 2023 after deciding to secure investment in Liverpool's future

For a club who have prided themselves on the clarity of their entire operation in recent years, the final weeks of 2022 were punctuated by their uncertainty at Liverpool.

FSG publicly steered clear of insisting a full sale was on their agenda, instead reiterating that investment from elsewhere would be welcomed under the right terms. That, though, did little to calm the intense, daily speculation about just who might want to become outright owners of the 19-time champions of England.

It was claimed, initially, that Schmadtke's deal was to run for three months as Liverpool approached a vitally important transfer window. At the age of 59, the German had to be coaxed out of retirement to take on what was undoubtedly his biggest job to date. The contract was actually for 12 months but it was mutually agreed that the partnership would be reviewed after a three-month period, which was at the start of September.

Former RB Leipzig negotiator Max Eberl has been linked of late with the German recently departing after the Bundesliga club detailed "a lack of commitment" from their sporting director. Eberl's reputation within European football circles is a lofty one but the expectation at Liverpool is that he is set for Bayern Munich at some stage.

There were rumours abound of talks with sovereign wealth funds, Qatar among them. These rumours, multiple financial sources in the US with knowledge of the matter repeatedly told the ECHO, were based in fiction and only given a slither of credence by social media traction and those keen for the claims to be true.

There will be an FSG exit from Liverpool at some point, but it won’t be anytime soon. There is a considerable amount of road to travel when it comes to the revenue potential and value potential of Liverpool, and for a company whose modus operandi is building businesses and creating value, to make an early exit makes little to no sense.

FSG landed on Dynasty after a long search because it provided them with the capital they required as well as a trusted relationship, with former Liverpool director and current FSG partner David Ginsberg serving as a senior advisor to Dynasty. Speaking at the Sportico Invest In Sports conference in New York earlier this month, where the ECHO were present, Dynasty co-founder Cornwell said: “What does a good deal mean? World class asset; world class management team.
