A new report has laid bare the impact surging costs are having on households across Scotland
A new report has found that nearly three-quarters of Scots blame the UK Government for the cost-of-living crisis. Following a survey on rising costs among people in Scotland, the marketing firm The Union labelled 2022 as the year of "permacrisis", citing the war in Ukraine, soaring inflation, political turmoil, energy prices and rising interest rates.
Rising costs also seem to have had an impact on people’s mental health, with 75 per cent reporting an increase in stress as a result of the economic crisis and a further 35 per cent saying they were having difficulty sleeping. The report also outlined how Scots were cutting back on their leisure time, with 87 per cent cutting back or delaying purchases, 57 per cent eating out less, and 55 per cent curtailing days out.
Adam Swann, chief strategy officer at The Union, said: “This throws light on the real human impact of the economic turbulence. It’s not just about news headlines, it’s millions of people worrying about putting food on the table or not having money to buy gifts at Christmas.
