Friends guest star Brooke Shields recalls her boyfriend's furious reaction to her role on the show. Shields began her career early on as a child model and actor before going on to more success in both sectors as an adult. In the 1980s, Shields starred in several dramas, including 1980's Blue Lagoon and 1981's Endless Love before reaching more mainstream success as the lead in the '90s sitcom Suddenly Susan.
While speaking recently with The New Yorker, Shields was asked about her guest role in Friends season 2 in 1995 and how her boyfriend at the time, tennis legend Andre Agassi, exhibited "petulant behavior" after watching her do a scene with Matt LeBlanc, who played Joey Tribbiani on the show. Agassi, whom Shields married in 1997 and divorced in 1999, was in the audience watching as Shields licked LeBlanc's fingers.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT It was petulant behavior. Well, I guess you’re right. It co-opted it for me emotionally, because all of a sudden then my focus went to him. In the scene, I’m supposed to lick Joey’s fingers, because they’re the hands of a genius, and I want to devour them, and I’m a nut. He was cute—he was, like, “I’ve washed my hands, and they’re all clean.” I was, like, “I had a mint!” Andre was in the audience supporting me, and he stormed out.
Who Did Brooke Shields Play In Friends? Shields was one of many well-known actors to take on a guest-starring role on Friends, a long list that includes the likes of Bruce Willis, Reese Witherspoon, and Tom Selleck, among others. Despite appearing in only one episode, Shields' strange Friends character is one of the show's most memorable guest spots and actually led directly to her casting as the lead in another NBC sitcom, Suddenly Susan, in which she starred from 1996 to 2000.
When Joey attempts to explain that he's just an actor, she doesn't believe him and hilariously throws a drink in his face, leading the rest of the Friends gang to convince her that Joey is actually Ramoray's evil twin, Hans, which she accepts. Shields wasn't the only guest star in the most watched Friends episode of all-time either, as the Super Bowl lead-out show also featured Jean-Claude Van Damme and Julia Roberts.
