A French patrol vessel twice escorted small boats crammed with dozens of people into UK waters so they could be safely rescued, newly released logs show.
They have been disclosed at a time when the government is under fire over its handling of the record number of people making the crossing.
The chaos is taking place amid a backdrop that includes almost 40,000 people making the journey in small boats across the Channel so far this year, according to government data.
