In addition to the freeze warnings, fire alerts are still active because of a high threat of brush fires or larger wildfires
The warnings will be active from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Friday in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Salem, Somerset, Sussex and Warren counties.
Regardless, any “frost and freeze conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation,” the weather service noted, saying homeowners and business owners should take steps to protect tender outdoor plants from the cold temperatures. Red flag warnings and fire weather watches will be in effect in New Jersey on Thursday and Friday, respectively.Temperatures in late April normally range from lows of 45 to 48 degrees in most areas of the state, and 40 degrees far north in Sussex County, with highs usually reaching the mid-60s to upper 60s.
