Frank DeLeon Jr. killed 16-year-old Diamond Alvarez in January 2022. He will have to serve at least half of his sentence before he's eligible for parole.
last year was officially sentenced to 45 years in prison on Thursday after accepting a plea deal the day before.They said they wanted to be there, but made the difficult decision to stay away.
"This case is a good example of the way things should work. It was resolved in under two years. That’s almost a record here in Harris County in homicide cases," Ogg said."This sentence reflects the brutality of this young man’s crime and it should be a deterrent to anyone else who lacks the impulse control to result in a killing of someone he says he loves at one time.""I just want peace, that’s all I want," Machado said.
Alvarez's uncle then charged DeLeon and another fight broke out between Alvarez's mother and DeLeon's mother. The families had to be separated.“He's a monster in my eyes. That would never change. Did he look remorseful at all? No. He was laughing at my face,” Machado said. “ it's a joke. A life is not a joke. My daughter's not a joke.""I've been fighting for justice, and today, finally, my daughter has her justice," Machado said.
“It was a fair sentence to avoid making Diamond’s family relive the details and trauma of this murder in the context of a jury trial,” Walsh said. “This is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and we want to remind everyone that if you are a victim, or you know a victim, don’t be afraid to call the police. We want to be able to stop things before they get worse.”DeLeon was taken into custody after he didn't appear at the beginning of his murder trial.
During an investigation, detectives learned Alvarez had agreed to meet DeLeon in their neighborhood park after she found out he was in another relationship. DeLeon was arrested days after the shooting and posted a $250,000 bond before being arrested again for violating his bond conditions. He was then granted bond again.
