The power of Francsico Alvarez’s bat continues to grow, as he has seven homers in July.
Alvarez hit a pair of two-run home runs, starting off with a blast that also scored Francisco Lindor as part of the Mets’ five-run surge in the first inning.
Mets manager Buck Showalter, however, also complimented the catcher for his patience in picking his spots to swing.Corey Sipkin for the NY POST“The walks he took tonight were impressive. You have that type of power at your fingertips, you want to swing. You want to hit the ball. You want to make it go a long way,” Showalter said after the game.
His 19 home runs make him the leader among catchers this season and are the most by a catcher in his age-21 or younger season since Johnny Bench hit 26 in 1969. “Why not?” he said through his interpreter following the game when asked if he expected to contribute this much this quickly.
