Fox News Host Defends Trump's Ukraine Call: ' Let Trump Be Trump'
Martha Raddatz asked McClintock directly on Sunday,"Is there anything that the president did involving Ukraine that is wrong or that concerns you in any way?"
"That's the only remarkable thing about that conversation. But he was entirely within his constitutional authority and was following the statue that Congress adopted in granting aid to the Ukraine," McClintock added. "I think it would be in the president's favor to have them testify now. But [Trump] has to weigh that against the enormous, catastrophic damage that would do to the doctrine of executive privilege, that assures that when policy is being developed within the administration those discussions are unfettered, are candid, are thinking outside of the box, that's why the doctrine of executive privilege exists.
Earlier in the same Sunday program, Democratic congresswoman Val Demmings said she was hopeful Trump would send attorneys or former senior officials to testify at the House impeachment hearings.
