The car flipped after it crashed into a barrier on the M61 near Kearsley
Four people managed to scramble free from the wreckage of a car which ended on its roof following a motorway crash last night.
Four people were inside a red saloon car which crashed into a barrier on the northbound carriageway and flipped onto its roof. All the occupants managed to scramble free from the wreckage and escaped serious injury, according to the emergency services. One lane of the carriageway remained closed for more than two hours, leading to congestion in the area. A police investigation into the crash is continuing.
"Firefighters from Eccles, Farnworth, Whitefield, and the Technical Rescue Unit from Leigh attended the incident where luckily the four occupants of the car were able to escape the damaged vehicle themselves.
