Four members of last years District 13-6A title team made college offers official.
Oak Ridge baseball players Hayden Morris, Conner Bennett, Gavin Hickman and Bryan London all signed college offers in a ceremony held Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at Oak Ridge High School.OAK RIDGE NORTH — Oak Ridge baseball coach JJ Peirce felt like Friday’s four player college signing class was just a start.
“Four years ago, we kind of knew this was going to be a special group,” Peirce said during his remarks to the audience on hand. “I really don’t think we’ll stop at four . I think we'll have three or four more before the year is over that will do the same celebration.” Signing with the Longhorns is not only a lifelong dream for the 6-foot-8 righthanded power pitcher, but it also had a sentimental feeling.“It’s been a lifelong dream,” Morris said. “I’ve been a Texas fan as long as I can remember. I’ve had some family there with my grandpa going to school there. My family is just a big diehard Texas family. It’s really a dream come true.
Bennett, who was the Montgomery County Defensive Most Valuable Player last season, not only plays his position at a high level, but also has the bat to make him a complete player.“I wanted to stay close to home,” Bennett said. “The new recruiter at UH is awesome. He’s just the best there is. Coach Kivett, he came from Tennessee. Just the things he’s doing over there with Whitting as coaching staff…you can’t get much better. It just feels like home.
