Called “The Beginner”, the advert starts with a middle-aged man learning to skateboard. We watch him fall multiple times, use frozen peas to ease his sore knees, pore over YouTube tutorials at his desk and head backFor a John Lewis advert, it feels very toned down. Yes, we also see him put the topper on the Christmas tree and the song feels festive but that special Christmas message seems to have been lost. That is until we see the real meaning behind the man’s new hobby.
