John Connally Jr. was committed to stalling those negotiations, convincing foreign leaders Regan had a better deal.Barnes, who at 26 became the youngest speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, was counseled by Connally, the Times reported.According to government records, flight logs show Barnes accompanied Connally on the July 18, 1980, trip from Houston to Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Israel, the Times reported.
