outside a McDonald’s restaurant last year, appeared in court Friday for the first time.
Brennand, 28, is charge with aggravated assault by a public servant, a first-degree felony. A possible second count of the same charge is awaiting indictment, court records show. Friday’s brief preliminary hearing offered prosecutors and defense attorneys the opportunity to discuss a number of housekeeping items, such as pretrial motions or the exchange of evidence. It was reset to a later date, court officials said.
Authorities say Brennand approached Cantu’s car on Oct. 2 as the teen sat in the parking lot at the McDonald’s in the 11700 block of Blanco Road on the North Side.
